Josep Ramoneda


Born in Cervera in 1949. Journalist and philosopher, director of the La Maleta de Portbou Review and of the European School of Humanities in Barcelona, a usual contributor inEl País newspaper, the Cadena Ser radio station and the Catalan journal Ara, he is the editor of a collections of essays at Galaxia Gutenberg. He is also the President ofEdicions 62 Publishing House. He was the Director of the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) between 1989 and 2011, President of the Institute of Research and Innovation (IRI) of Paris (2009- 2014), Director of the Institute of Humanities of Barcelona (1986-1989) and Professor of Contemporary Philosophy at the Barcelona Autónoma University (1975-1990).

He has published several books, including Apologia del present. Assaigs de fi de segle (Edicions 62, 1989), Después de la pasión política (Taurus, 1999), Del tiempo condensado. Globalización, inmigración, terrorismo, cultura (Debolsillo, 2003), Contra la indiferencia. Apología de la Ilustración (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2010), La izquierda necesaria (RBA Libros, 2012) and the collective book Existential Utopia (New York, 2012).

He has received the award Ciutat de Barcelona of international projection (2012) and the National Culture award of the Regional Government of Catalonia (2013).
